As an art director and designer, I embrace an organic process with my clients. I have a keen ability to interpret your ideas visually and bring an artful, sophisticated eye to the collaborative process. I have a strong ability to perceive the subtleties of my client’s needs and to execute a project to the finest detail. With an open, thoughtful communication style, I create an environment that allows for fresh, innovative design solutions and a sense of collaboration and teamwork.

As a graduate of CCA(c) in 1999, I had a unique introduction to the graphic design community. My teachers were well known Bay Area designers and the education there bred strong conceptual thinking skills. Before I graduated, I was hired along with a small group of designers to redesign Wired magazine. I later went on to start a company specializing in women’s apparel and home accessories, applying my designs to fabric instead of paper. In the past 8 years as a designer, I have worked on a wide range of projects. I have worked extensively with major retailers including Gump’s and Red Envelope, helped small businesses with their identity systems and websites, and have a client list that ranges from a best-selling author to a political consulting firm to Microsoft.

I relish making art of the everyday. Always inspired by my natural surroundings, a persimmon branch becomes the centerpiece on my table and then a graphic for a pillow. I view life as a treasure hunt and integrate that into my work. My aesthetic has purity and sophistication while still incorporating bold colors, layers of pattern, and a playful freshness. For me connecting with people and helping in a collaborative effort is an essential ingredient to thriving work – and of course, a great sense of humor throughout the process is also key.

I invite you to contact me to discuss your project. A 30-minute design consultation and job quote are free of charge. I look forward to hearing from you – Kate
